Community voice loud to PUSD--No to school closures


(In this section--Part 1-- Jonathan Fuhrman, the Considation Committes chair details the committes task and the goal for the public form that is recorded in this video.)

Hundreds came to Eliot Middle School to speak and be seen, Monday evening, October, 2010. The public form held in the school's auditorium was the first opportunity parents, teachers and neighbors had to speak about Pasadena Unified School District's (PUSD) plan to consolidate elementary schools in the district by possibly closing three schools. Budget shortfalls are given as the reason for school closures.

The Consolidation Committee has been meeting since September 11, 2010. The information gathered from committee meetings and public meetings will be used to create recommendations that will be submitted in a report to Superintendent Diaz to the Board .

A press release from PUSD ( September 9, 2010 http://www.pusd.us/modules/cms/pages.phtml?pageid=192482&sessionid=3ce959d4d74569003f96855f0a75a8ac) states, "Superintendent is tentatively scheduled to make his recommendations to the Board at its meeting on November 9, 2010. "

A second public form will be held on Friday, October 8, 6pm-8pm at Wilson Middle School, Wilson Middle School, 300 S. Madre St.
Pasadena, CA 91106.

Strong and serious questions for all to consider about Pasadena / Altadena schools closings from an Altadena parent

As the parent of two PUSD 8th graders, I too am upset by the need to close schools. It is understandable that many people are angry, and take out their anger on the school board and the PUSD administrators. But the reality is that their hands are tied. The problems facing PUSD are due to decisions made in Sacramento as well as Washington, D.C.



PUSD currently has 20 elementary schools. If three of them are closed, it will have 17 elementary schools.
